UK legislation is set at Government level and by the EU. some 75% of all UK environmental legislation comes from the European Union, with such ratifications as the WEEE directive, Batteries directive and Packaging directive. The UK’s legislation is passed into law by the House of Commons as a bill, laid before parliament. Once approved, Environmental legislation is enforced by the Environment Agency (England & Wales), a subsidiary of DEFRA, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural affairs.
